Following the dissolution of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on June 25, 2020, the National Convention/Extra-Ordinary Caretaker Committee (NCEOCC) was given a mandate by the National Executive Committee (NEC) to superintend the affairs of the party for a period of six months. The clock ticks for the committee as its lifespan is now less than 2 months.
While other aspirants and political juggernauts have adopted a seemingly “siddon look” approach, or are waiting in the wings for the Caretaker Committee to blow the whistle to kickstart the convention planning process, one individual has decided to take the bull by the horn and throw his hat into the ring – Comrade Paul Oyiborume, is that political titan from the South-South that has taken up the gauntlet.
Comrade Paul Oyiborume is a political enthusiast born into the family of the Oyiborumes and hails from Ethiope East local government area of Delta State where he stayed through childhood and had his primary and secondary education. He holds a Bachelors of Science (B.Sc) degree in Conflict resolution from the University of Benin and has a Masters in Environmental Quality Management from the same institution.
His strong passion for politics began from his youthful days and this spurred the ending desire to touch and improve lives of people around him. This culminated in his active involvement in politics during his University days where he held various positions in the Student Union Government, while also serving in numerous committees.
With 18 years experience in Delta State Civil Service and other giant strides in business and enterprise, Comrade Oyiborume brings to the fore ingenuity and resilience to break limits.
A stalwart of the All Progressives Congress (APC), a youth leader of note that shot into the limelight as the South-south Zonal Youth Leader aspirant in the 2018 National Convention, amongst other roles in the party including being a member of the 2019 Presidential Campaign Council (PCC). Oyiborume has been able to build considerable influence not only in his South-south base but also at the top echelons of the party. Governors and top party leaders are among his high networth of associates.
Not many know that Oyiborume was the arrow-head of the group that championed the intense campaign and mobilization for the immediate past APC National Secretary, Arc. Waziri Bulama. As the co-chair of the Bulama Support Group (BSG), Paul, as he is fondly called, galvanised support for Bulama when the seat of the party’s National Secretary became vacant, following the election of its former occupant, Mai Mala Buni as Governor of Yobe State.
The dexterity and political acumen of Comrade Oyiborume came to the fore during the campaigns as he leveraged his wide network of contacts within the party to make a case for Bulama. The rest is now history as unfortunate events led to the dissolution of the NWC, few weeks after Bulama assumed office.
Not one to give up in the face of unexpected set-backs, Oyiborume is now set to run for the office of APC Deputy National Secretary in the forthcoming National Convention. He has aptly tagged his campaign as ” A smart agenda to reposition the party”.
As he sets the ball of his campaign rolling, one can beat his chest that Comrade Oyiborume is the man to beat for the coveted position. As a dye in the wool progressive, we are confident that he will work with other leaders to bequeath a digital party with discernible ideology that will be not only be a pride of its founding fathers, but also attractive to the country’s teeming youth population.
